I know, I know! BB creams are pasee, CC creams are all the rage now, blah, blah, blah. Listen, I’m a mother of 5 children under the age of 12; sometimes I’m a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to trends (among several other things like laundry, signing permission forms and rsvp-ing for birthday parties). Also, I knew I was buying this product for myself and not my kit, so like any good mother of 5 who has a healthy respect for household finances, I saved up all my Shopper’s Optimum Points and got this puppy for free! Now, the fact that I paid narry a cent for this is almost reason enough to love it unconditionally, but I assure you that it didn’t factor in at all on my opinion on this product which is as follows: Wow.
Just to clarify, I never wear foundation because my skin is good enough to warrant not layering on products that, no matter how good, tend to look heavy on me. I don’t wear tinted moisturizer because when it comes to moisturizer (and skincare in general) I will only use Yum Gourmet Skincare which does not make one, and, as far as other brands are concerned, I have such a hard time finding a shade that blends out properly on my fair skin. This beauty balm, which only comes in only one shade, took both these concerns and threw them right out the window! I needed only a pea sized amount of product to cover my entire face absolutely flawlessly. It didn’t look heavy at all, blended out into nothing, and it managed to let my skin shine through while simultaneously evening out my skin tone, diminishing any pores I have, smoothing out my fine lines and making my skin feel incredibly soft and pampered. I also found that combined with my mattifying moisturizer, the stila bb cream kept the shine at bay almost the whole day. The first day I wore it I put concealer in my usual spots – under my eyes, around my nose and on my chin – and everything blended together seamlessly. The next day, I had gotten a little less sleep and lingered in bed a bit longer than I should have which cut into my makeup time so I used my smashbox under eye primer (love that stuff) but skipped the concealer and used this on its own. To my amazement, it actually did quite a lot to make it look like my 20 month old hadn’t woken my up 3 times in the midle of the night (don’t worry, I’m not bitter ). If you want full concealer coverage, this doesn’t quite do it but if you don’t have time or don’t need major cover up, it’s great! According to stila, this seems to be intended to be used as a makeup base/primer, but if you have decent skin I say it takes the place of foundation, no problem. With skin positive and perfecting ingredients this has become my go-to choice for fast, easy and beautiful complexion makeup.
Final verdict: ba-da ba ba ba, I’m lovin’ it!
